An airplane pilot (well, autopilot these days) constantly makes minor adjustments along the way to their destination. The loan payoff spreadsheet helps you plan to pay off your mortgage or other loan early. It helps you answer scenarios like: how much more would I have to pay per month in order to pay off my loan in 12 years?

Or you could say I have $100 extra per month that I could dedicate to paying off the loan early. How many years would that knock off the loan? This planner answers those questions.

You can customize it to your situation. Do you have PMI (private mortgage insurance)? How much are your taxes and home insurance? You can input these as well as your interest rate. Then you can start running different scenarios.

You can put in the original principal amount and the number of years you have been paying on the loan and check that you are close to your current situation. Once you get the hang of how the sheet works, you can then modify the principal amount to the current principal to run other scenarios.
